GENEVA -- Before social media, before the internet was in practically every home and nearly every phone, heck before many homes had computers, there were zines. Zines were (and are) small-run, self-published publications generally devoted to very specific interests and communities. They're usually a labor of love and it shows in everything from their DIY aesthetic to their subjects, which often fly under the radar of mainstream publications. This past week, our own Geneva13 released its twenty-first issue with a blow out celebration at Lake Drum Brewing. There are still copies to be found there and at your other favorite locations around downtown, but be sure to get one soon. Geneva13 has no online home. It exists solely as a paper edition and an invitation to slow down, turn the pages and appreciate the words and images your community has to offer.
